Tinryland GFC club Notes 5th July 2026
The final weekend of the Southeast Sevens tournament sponsored by Electric Avenue featured 35 Girls and boys teams competing for the Cora Townsend and Ned Hayden trophies.
The girls tournament held on Saturday saw 16 teams from 5 counties compete and after a very competitive day of football the Cora Townsend cup final involved Graiguecullen from Laois and Ballinteer St. John’s from Dublin. A superior Graiguecullen remained unbeaten throughout the tournament winning the final against Ballinteer St. John’s from Dublin on a scoreline of 7-5 to 2-3. Graiguecullen captain Tia Core received the Cora Townsend cup from the late Cora’s husband Liam.
The Cora Townsend shield was another close affair with Wicklow’s Baltinglass defeating O’Hanrahan’s from Carlow on a scoreline of 2-4 to 2-3. Baltinglass captain Aoife Sands received the Cora Townsend cup from Padraig Townsend son of the late Cora.
The secondary competitions for the plate and plaque were won by St Conleths and Bennekerry/Tinryland respectively.
On Sunday last it was the turn of the U13 boys who were competing for the Ned Hayden trophies. 19 club teams from 8 different counties travelled to Tinryland for this popular event. At the end of a great days football involving 52 games victory in the Ned Hayden cup final went to defending champions Rathvilly who overcame Ballymun Kickhams on a scoreline of 6-6 to 3-1. Ned Hayden grandson of the late Ned Hayden presented the cup to Rathvilly captain Cooper O’Brien. The Ned Hayden shield was won by Kildare’s St Laurence’s who had a comfortable victory over fellow Kildare club Moorefield. Declan Hayden grandson of Ned Hayden presented the shield to Tom Doyle captain of St. Laurences.
The plate and plaque competitions were won by Waterford clubs Rathgormack and An Gaeltacht respectively.
In the coming week 4 Tinryland teams will be in action at championship level. Tinryland minors played St. Martins in round 2 of the championship last evening Monday. On this coming Thursday 9th July our U16 team will be at home to Clonmore at 7.30 p.m. On Saturday next 11th July Tinryland U12 team will be at home to O’Hanrahans at 2.15 pm while on the following day Sunday the U14 team will host Clonmore at 11 a.m.
The club lotto jackpot of €10,000 is still standing. Last weeks lucky dip winners were Roisin Chapman, Clare Kelly, Shane Delaney and Ginger McCullough.
