    Tinryland GFC club notes 15th June 2026

The opening weekend in the Electric Avenue sponsored South East sevens tournament got off to a great start on Saturday and Sunday last with both days blessed with brilliant weather and great competitive football for the 8 trophies on offer. 12 girls U17 clubs from 6 different counties battled it out for the Mary Dwyer silverware held in memory of the former Irish International athlete and ladies gaelic football official. At the end of a great day of football Carlow’s O’Hanrahans showed their class by winning the cup final against Dublin club Ballinteer St. Johns. The shield final was an all-Carlow affair with Rathvilly edging out the host club Bennekerry/Tinryland. The Plate and Plaque finals were won respectively by Ballinteers No 2 team and Ballymun Kickhams who defeated Celbridge No 1 team in a great final. The presentation of the prizes was done by Amy and Lauren Dwyer who presented O’Hanrahans captain Lucy Grogan and Rathvilly captain Vena Doyle with the respective Mary Dwyer Cup and Shield.

On Sunday it was the turn of 18 boys U17 clubs from 7 counties to do battle for the Pat Doyle Cup, shield, Plate and plaque and at the end of a high quality tournament in memory of a great Tinryland footballer Na Fianna Og from Laois emerged as cup winners defeating a very good Eire Og team from Carlow in the final. The Pat Doyle shield was won by Graiguecullen who got the better of Rathvilly in another outstanding final. Celbridge from Kildare and Asca won the Pat Doyle plate and plaque respectively. Evan and Glen Doyle sons of the late Pat presented the winning teams with the various silverware on offer.

The South- East sevens will continue on week ending 27th and 28th June when 32 U15 girls and boys teams will battle it out for the Tommy O’Neill and Peenie and Mick Whelan cups. The tournament concludes on weekending 4th and 5th July with the U13 players battling it out for the Cora Townsend and Ned Hayden cups and shields.

Bennekerry Tinryland ladies were well represented on the Carlow ladies team that defeated Sligo in round 2 of the All-Ireland championship on Sunday last. Aoibhin Webb who received the player of the match award, Cliodhna Ni Se and Ruth Bermingham all played prominent roles in Carlow’s victory. The Carlow team will now be hoping for more success this coming weekend when they travel to London to take on the home side in round 3.

The club lotto jackpot still stands at €10,000 and can be played online via the club force app or by purchasing a ticket from any committee member. Last weeks lucky dip winners were Peenie Whelan, John Calvey, Bermingham family and Caoimhe, Cian and Enid.
