Tinryland GFC club Notes 7th June 2026
Our No 1 adult team were understrength for their Carlow Credit Union SFL Div 1 semi-final against Rathvilly on Sunday last and in a match played in difficult weather conditions lost out to last years Senior championship finalists on a scoreline of 1-16 to 0-5.
All roads lead to the Tinryland GFC grounds in Rathcrogue on this coming Saturday and Sunday for the opening two competitions in the Electric Avenue sponsored Southeast Sevens tournament which is taking place over 3 weekends for the 5th consecutive year.
On Saturday next 13th June 16 girls U17 teams will battle it out for the Mary Dwyer Cup and Shield which remembers a great local sporting lady who contributed a lot to both ladies football and athletics. Among the clubs taking part will be the respective cup and shield holders St. Brigids and Graiguecullen both from Laois.
On Sunday next 14th June 16 boys U17 teams from the 4 corners of Ireland will take part in the Pat Doyle memorial Cup and shield held in memory of a legendary Tinryland footballer who won 5 senior championships with the club in the 1970s and 1980’s. Among the 16 teams pencilled in for Sundays competition are the holders Naas from Kildare and last years shield winners from the promoting club Tinryland.
Further Southeast sevens tournaments will be held on weekending 27th and 28th June when 32 u15 girls and boys teams will battle it out for the Tommy O’Neill and Peenie and Mick Whelan cups and shields. The Southeast sevens tournament which has attracted an entry of 96 clubs will wind up on weekending 4th and 5th July with the Cora Townsend and Ned Hayden cups and shields for U13 girls and boys.

The club lost two former well respected club members in the past week when both Michael Delaney and Fr. Eamonn Hayden passed to their eternal reward on Friday last. Michael Delaney was a senior player for Tinryland during the 1960’s and 1970’s while Fr Eamonn Hayden was a player and former vice president of our club. Condolences are extended to the extended Delaney and Hayden families.
Congratulations to Tinryland athlete Adam Murphy who was recently called up to the Irish senior relay squad for the upcoming major championship season. Adam recently broke his PB for 200m clocking 20.87 in winning the Leinster championship.
The club lotto jackpot of €10,000 still stands and can be played online via the club force app or by purchasing a ticket for the Monday evening draw from any committee member. Last weeks lucky dip winners were Tom Hickey, David Byrne, Liam and Maire Foster and Catherine and Caden Farrell.
