Tinryland GFC club notes 29th May 2026
Tinryland teams enjoyed a successful 2 weeks at both adult and underage level recently.
Our Intermediate team who are the defending Carlow Credit Union S.F.L. division 1 champions progressed to the semi-final of this years competition with a comfortable win over fellow Intermediate team Clonmore at the Centre of Excellance on Sunday 24th May.
A whirlwind first half set Tinryland up for this win having also showed improved form in defeating both St. Patricks and Old Leighlin in their previous league matches after a poor start to this years league. Tinryland will now face Rathvilly in the league semi-final on Sunday next 7th June in Netwatch Cullen Park at 7.30 p.m.
Outstanding for Tinryland against Clonmore were Jamie and Bobby Doyle, Lorcan O’Connor, Paddy Regan and Peter Hennessy.
At underage level a young Tinryland U16s defeated Clonmore in the Spring League division 2 B and then accounted for Michael Davitts No 2 team in the final on Thursday last in a high scoring game. The result was Tinryland 5-8 Michael Davitts No 2 3-9.
The draws for the Carlow football championships at adult level were made recently. In the Intermediate championship Tinryland will play St. Patricks, Clonmore and Kildavin-Clonegal in their opening 3 matches with the opening game against St Patricks pencilled in for the weekend of 19th July.
At Junior B level Tinryland has been drawn with St. Patricks, Naomh Eoin and Ballinabranna in the opening 3 games which also begin on the weekend of 19th July.
A brand-new Coffee and tuck shop called the Hatch has been set up at the club grounds and will be open during underage training sessions and games. The club recently launched a summer draw with some very good prizes up for grabs. Each family of juvenile players will be issued with one book to sell and tickets are also available from the Hatch and the club bar.
The Tinryland GFC golf classic at Gowran Park which is one of the main fundraisers every year will take place on Friday 19th and Saturday 20th June. Further details from club secretary Paul Broderick and Cormac Walshe of the organising committee.
Well done to star Tinryland athlete Adam Murphy who won the Leinster senior 200m title recently in record time smashing his PB with a clocking of 20.87 having also set a PB in the winning his semi-final. Adam travelled to Stratford in the UK on the following evening clocking 21.00 to finish 2nd in his heat to Irish international sprinter Bori Akinola. Adam will now turn his attention to the National track and field championship on July 25th at the Morton stadium where qualification for the upcoming European championships in Birmingham in early August will be on his mind. Eanna Dunican is another local athlete making giant strides at sprinting and he recently won the Leinster U20 100m title in a PB of 10.26. He also won the South Leinster schools senior boys 100m title
