Tinryland GFC club Notes 10th May 2026
The past week was a good one on the playing front with victories for our Intermediate team in the SFL Division 1 over Old Leighlin and our minor team in the Spring League against Asca. Both our No 1 team and our minors have now qualified for the knockout stages of their respective competitions. Tinryland minors will play Rathvilly in the Spring league final at the Training Centre on this Thursday 14th May at 6.30 p.m. Tinryland Intermediate team who are the defending Carlow Credit Union division 1 champions had an easy win over an understrength Old Leighlin on Friday last to advance to the quarter final where they will meet Clonmore. At U16 level Tinryland were well beaten by Fenagh in the past week.
Tinryland No 2-adult team who will compete in the Junior (B) championship this year will face a relegation battle against our neighbours Palatine in the division 3 league on Saturday next 16th May at 7 p.m.
Tinryland U14 team will be in action twice in the coming week with a home fixture against O’Hanrahans on Thursday next 14th May at 7 p.m. and another home game with Eire Og on Sunday next 17th May at 11 a.m. Our U12 squad will be at home to Grange on Saturday next 16th May at 2.15 p.m.
There was a great turnout of 20 members for the club improvement day held on Saturday last with a lot of tasks completed. It is planned to hold a few more days similar to this throughout the summer months.
Two of our minor players Oisin Byrne and Tadhg Deane were part of the Carlow minor football team that beat Kilkenny in the Seamus Heaney cup at UPMC Nowlan park on Sunday last.
Arrangements are progressing for the Southeast Sevens tournament that will be held over 3 weekends in June and July. Over 90 club teams from the 4 provinces have expressed an interest in competing in the U13, U15 and U17 boys and girls games that will commence on Saturday and Sunday 13th and 14th June with the Mary Dwyer and Pat Doyle cup and shield tournaments.
Further Southeast Sevens games for the Tommy O’Neill cup and Shield and the Peenie and Mick Whelan cup and shield at U15 level will be held on 27th and 28th June. The final weekend on the 4th and 5th July will see the U13’s in action for the Cora Townsend and Ned Hayden cups and shields.
The club lotto jackpot of €10,000 is still standing and can be played online via the clubforce app or by purchasing a ticket for the Monday evening draw from any committee member. Last weeks lucky dip winners were: P.J. Murphy, David Byrne (Tut), Liam Delaney and Aoife and Kyle Farrell.
