Carlow Credit Union SFL Div 1
Tinryland 3-22 Old Leighlin 0-2
Tinryland made sure of a place in the quarter finals of the Carlow Credit Union Division 1 league with a facile win over the home side in Molaise Park on Friday 8th May. Old Leighlin were without two thirds of the team that won last year’s Michael Lyng Motors SFC, and the game was over as a contest after the opening quarter as Tinryland built up a 12-point advantage with some wonderful point taking including a pair of two pointers by a back to form Diarmaid Walshe.
Old Leighlins only first half score came in the 12th minute from James Dowling who was well shackled by the Tinryland defence in this one-sided game. Other highlights from a one-sided opening half included a Ross Moran goal in the 6th minute with the same player repeating this act in the 47th minute. Former Carlow panellist Paddy Regan and his midfield partner Sean Murphy pulled the strings in this game and Tinryland also saw former Co player Jonah Dunne return to the fold after a period spent travelling in Europe. Half time score Tinryland 1-14 Old Leighlin 0-1.
The second half followed the exact pattern of the first with Tinryland totally dominating in all areas and they were rewarded with a brilliant individual goal from Paddy Regan in the 36th minute in addition to Ross Moran’s 2nd major 11 minutes later. Both sides gave game time to their bench with the eventual winners sending on Maurice Lawler, Jamie Doyle, Tomas Murphy, and Seamus McCullough in addition to the very fit looking Jonah Dunne. Old Leighlin subs included Michael Meaney, Padraig Coughlin, Adam Dowling, Barry O’Brien and Eoin Bambrick. A feature of the one-sided 2nd half was a wonderful penalty save by Old Leighlins Steven Scallan from Tinryland replacement Jamie Doyle after Seamus McCullough was felled in the square.
Veteran player Seamus Kinsella scored Old Leighlin’s only second half point from a free in the 56th minute.
Outstanding for the winners who had 10 individual scorers were defenders Conor Ryan, Michael Hosey, Niall Lowry and Lorcan O’Conner while at midfield Paddy Regan and Sean Murphy ruled the roost giving plenty of ammunition to the forward sextet of Peter Hennessy, Diarmaid Walshe, Mark Mullen, Bobby Doyle, Rory Doyle and Danny Moran who was forced to withdraw before half time with a groin injury.
