Tinryland 3-18 St. Patricks 2-14
High scoring was the order of the evening when defending league champions Tinryland gained their first points in this years competition at the expense of fellow Intermediate team St Patricks in round 6 on Friday last.
On a brilliant evening for football, it was the men from the banks of the Slaney that opened the scoring in the 4th minute with a Jack Kennedy point after his goalkeeper Gerry McGuill had made a brilliant save seconds earlier at the other end. Tinryland edged into a three-point lead with points from Jamie Doyle, Diarmaid Walshe and Cormac O’Brien before they put daylight between the teams with a Paddy Regan goal after great play by Ross Moran and Niall Lowry.
St. Patricks midfielder Stephen Metcalfe and Tinryland’s Jamie Doyle traded points before the Tullow men got right back in contention with a Cian Doran goal mid-way through the first half. Further St. Patricks points from Jack Kennedy (2) edged the away team ahead by the minimum margin before Tinryland finished the half in style with a well worked Danny Moran point and a brilliant goal from the pacy Cormac O’Brien after good play by Rory Doyle and Paddy Regan.
