Palatine 4-12 Tinryland 0-8
Palatines ability to take their scoring chances and defend when required was the difference between the table toppers and the basement team at the end of this 5th round game in Rathcrogue on Thursday last. The men from Cnoc Arda were never headed after the opening exchanges when Jack Deacy opened their account with a point quickly followed by a goal from Oran O’Boyle. Rory Doyle opened the Tinryland scoring with a point in the 6th minute with Jamie Walker adding to the home teams tally with a wonderful point. The game then turned in Palatines favour with 2 further goals from midfielder Ciaran Moran and defender Sam McHugh which left Tinryland with a mountain to climb entering the 2nd half without their Co panellist Paddy Regan who was once again only permitted to play for 30 minutes. Half time score Palatine 3-3 Tinryland 0-5.
When referee Marion Hayden re-started proceedings Bryan McMahon for Palatine and Cormac O’Brien for Tinryland traded points as did Sam McHugh for the winners and Jamie Doyle for Tinryland following a great run by Cormac O’Brien. Palatine then began to turn the screw in a big way with a brilliant two pointer from centre forward Bryan McMahon and a 4th goal from wing forward Jack Deacy after a turnover in the Tinryland forward line. The league leaders continued to pile on the scores with further points from wing back Ewan Breen (2), Conor Buggy and Tomas Kenny. Tinryland’s scoring which was sparse in the 2nd half was completed by Cormac O’Brien. After the game the Andy Murphy shield was presented to Palatine captain Ciaran Moran by John Murphy with proceeds from the gate donated to Carlow Hospice.
