Tinryland 3-5 Bagenalstown Gaels 0-7
A hat trick of goals from veteran Evan Doyle was the difference between the teams at the end of this hard-fought JFC B quarter final against Bagenalstown Gaels at the Netwatch training Centre on Sunday morning 28th September. In the first half scores for both teams were at a premium and it took until the 21st minute for the first score in the match to be registered. That score which was a successful penalty from Even Doyle after he had be fouled in the square was followed by two Bagenalstown points from their lively corner forwards Darren Hickey and T J Darcy. The first half then ended on a good note for the eventual winners when Evan Doyle was credited with his 2nd goal which many in attendance thought that the ball had not crossed the goal line. Half time score Tinryland 2-0 Bagenalstown Gaels 0-2.
When Tullow referee James Tobin re-started proceedings Sean Murphy scored a valuable two pointer for Tinryland as both teams introduced subs in Conall McGuire for Tinryland and Aidan Dowling for the Gaels. The Gaels enjoyed a productive period between the 38th and 41st minutes with points from T.J. Darcy and Jason Dillon but Tinryland were back ahead by 5 points by the 45th minute with a successful conversion by Evan Doyle. The Rathcrogue native who has given great service to club and county then scored his 3rd goal after great play by Sam Byrne to give the men in hoops an eight-point cushion. Bagenalstown responded with a well taken point from mid-fielder Paddy Abbey as Tinryland sent on Adam Mullen and Glen Doyle into battle with Brian McGrath and Jason Nocter also getting game time. Glen was only a few minutes on the field when he slotted over a point from a free with Shay McCullough capping a fine performance by scoring Tinryland’s final point in the 59 th minute. Bagenalstown had the final say in the scoring stakes when their centre forward Alan Beaton scored a two pointer on the stroke of full time.
Tinryland now advance to the semi-final against Clonmore on Sunday next 5th October at 11.45 a.m. on pitch 1 at the Centre Of Excellence
