Eire Og too strong for Tinryland in Junior B

Talbot Hotel Carlow JFC (B)

                       Eire Og  4-9                                                              Tinryland 1-6

Eire Ogs 3rd 15 were much too strong for Tinryland’s 2nd squad in the final league round of the Talbot Hotel JFC (B) at rain soaked Rathcrogue on Friday last. The men from Teach Asca never looked back after their energetic midfielder Corey Harmon converted a two pointer in the 6th minute. A succession of further points from Lee Carpenter, Harmon, and Daniel Hayden-Donovan were added to by a spectacular Liam Ryan goal in the 16th minute after brilliant play by ex-senior player Derrick Hayden. It took a full 20 minutes for the home team to get on the scoresheet, and it was corner back Joey Ryan who eventually opened the Tinryland account. Eire Og then continued to clock up the scores and a Derrick Hayden goal in the 23rd minute virtually ended this game as a contest before Tinryland managed two late first half consolation points from the non-related Murphys Gregg and Tomas. Half time score Eire Og 2-7 Tinryland 0-3.

After the half time team talk Tinryland returned to action with two of their former stalwarts Evan Doyle and Shane O’Neill and the home side were certainly much improved in the opening stages. Evan Doyle took only one minute to get on the scoreboard with a well taken point and the same player rolled back the years with a brilliant goal in the 34th minute which reduced the YI advantage to 6 points. The town team also began to ring the changes at this stage sending on Shane Kelly and James Ruth and they were quickly back in command with Liam Ryans second goal with 20 minutes remaining as Tinryland sent Glen Doyle and Paddy Walshe into battle.

The closing quarter in this game spoiled by the weather was a successful penalty from Derrick Hayden which killed the game as a contest. The final stages saw Tinryland score two consolation points from Shay McCullough after more good Evan Doyle work together with another from wing forward Eoghan Hosey who was withdrawn immediately after his conversion. The Eire Og scoring was completed by another sub-Barry Murphy.

After this game both clubs are still in the championship with Eire Og now looking like lively contenders while Tinryland will have to show a vast improvement if they are to advance from next week’s quarter final.
