Talbot Hotel JFC (B)
Tinryland 1-12 Kildavin-Clonegal 0-7
Tinryland’s 2nd 15 succeeded where their first 15 failed by winning their opening championship game in the Talbot Hotel JFC (B) at Rathcrogue on Sunday evening. The eventual winners set the tone for this win as early as the opening minute when their best player Tomas Murphy slotted over a two pointer from a free kick won by himself. Murphy at midfield was outstanding throughout with his high fielding a joy to watch. Kildavin/Clonegal opened their account in the 7th minute with a point from Conor Doyle but it was the home side that continued to dominate with another two pointer from Jack Lowry and excellent points from Eoghan Hosey, Gregg Murphy and Luke Broderick. Kildavin/Clonegal doubled their account with a point from a free by Conor Doyle but after more good play by Tomas Murphy, Adam Fennelly who was also outstanding throughout slotted over another Tinryland point entering the closing stages of the first half. Kildavin/Clonegal enjoyed a mini purple patch at this stage with further points from Jamie Rooney and Conor Doyle before referee James Tobin sounded the half time whistle. Half time score Tinryland 0-8 Kildavin Clonegal 0-4.
When the 2nd half began Brian McGrath got in on the act for Tinryland with a well taken point after good play by Gregg Murphy and Tinryland were 6 points ahead by the 33rd minute when Seamus McCullough pointed after great play by Eoghan Hosey and Gregg Murphy. Kildavin/Clonegal did have many chances to increase their tally but wayward shooting was their downfall and whenever they threatened veteran goalkeeper Trevor O’ Reilly was more than competent in the Tinryland goal. More good play by Tinryland resulted in another point from Sean Murphy before Tinryland put this game out of the Wexford border sides reach with a brilliantly worked Brian McGrath goal after more good play by Shay McCullough and Luke Broderick. Tinryland then added one further point to their account via Sean Murphy before Kildavin/Clonegal staged another mini rally with a two pointer from their centre back Padraig Nolan and a point from their wing forward Conor Byrne.
Outstanding for the winners were goalkeeper Trevor O’Reilly who rolled back the years with a great display together with defenders Matthew Gleeson, Adam Fennelly.
