 Tinryland GFC club notes September 6th, 2025

The championship season for our senior team began on a losing note at Netwatch Cullen park on Saturday last when two valuable championship points were lost against last year’s Intermediate champions Fenagh. Tinryland seniors will be back in action in the Michael Lyng Motors Hyundai Carlow SFC on Sunday next 14th September at 5 p.m. against our neighbours Palatine.

Tinryland juniors competing in the Talbot Hotel J.F.C. (B) were successful against Kildavin/Clonegal in the opening round played at Rathcrogue on Sunday last. Outstanding for Tinryland were Tomas Murphy, Seamus McCullough Adam Fennelly, Jack Lowry and veteran goalkeeper Trevor O’Reilly. The juniors will be back in action away to Clonmore in Hacketstown on Saturday next 13th September at 6 p.m.

Tinryland’s 3rd adult team competing in the Talbot Hotel JFC C will be seeking their first win when they travel to play Mount Leinster Rangers in Borris on this coming Tuesday 9th September at 6.45 p.m.

At underage level there were mixed results for Tinryland teams in the past week. Our U16 team lost out by 4 points to Naomh Eoin in Myshall on Monday last while our U14 team had a comfortable victory over Fenagh in JJ Hogan Park on Wednesday last. At minor level Tinryland lost out to Eire Og in the Cental Carlow MFC on Thursday and will play their next game against Bagenalstown Gaels on Thursday 18th September.

An enjoyable table quiz in aid of the juvenile section of the club took place in the clubhouse on Friday last. At the end of the 100 questions a team captained by Aishlinn Whelan emerged victorious with a score of 85 marks ahead of teams captained by James Egan and John Paul Moore. Well done to all the parents of our underage players who supported the quiz. A huge thanks also to all our juvenile players and parents who helped out on Saturday at the Bucket collection in Raths Londis Pollerton Carlow.

Bennekerry/Tinryland senior ladies the current All Ireland Intermediate champions guaranteed themselves a place in another Carlow senior final with a game to spare when they easily defeated St Annes by 4-16 to 1-3 in Grange on Saturday evening. Outstanding for the BT ladies were Cliodhna Ni Se and Sinead Hayden who scored 3-9 between them together with Marie Cranny, Orla Woods and Sarah Nolan.

The club lotto jackpot still stands at €10,000 and can be played online via the club force app or by purchasing a ticket for the Monday night draw from any committee member. Last week’s lucky dip winners were: Jimmy Curran, Ellen Nolan, Tara Phelan and Fiona Cullen.
