      Tinryland G.F.C. club notes June 8th 2025

A 57-year famine ended at Netwatch Cullen Park on Friday last when Tinryland senior footballers lifted their first Carlow Credit Union senior league title since 1968 with a 4-point win over Co. champions Rathvilly. After conceding the first score to their opponents in the early stages Tinryland went on to play good football scoring 4 two pointers during the game and having led by 4 points at the interval they withstood a great Rathvilly rally before kicking on again to maintain their 4-point advantage at the end. Club captain Danny Moran was presented with the league trophy by Tinryland’s Co board official Michael Doran and the team will now have a break of 3 months before the Michael Lyng Motors Carlow S.F.C. begins.

At underage level it was a quiet week on the playing front with our U12 team the only squad in action away to Fenagh where they came out on top in the Cental U12 mini league.

In the coming week there is only one underage game down for decision when our U14 squad host O’Hanrahans in the Cental U14 championship on Sunday next 15th June at 11 a.m.

The stage is almost set for the opening weekend of the Southeast sevens tournament that will be hosted by Tinryland G.F.C. over four weekends commencing on Saturday 21st June with the Girls U16 tournament for the Mary Dwyer Cup. On the following day Sunday 22nd June the boys U16 event will be held in memory of Pat Doyle. Over 130 clubs have to date entered the hugely popular tournament that continues on the following weekend with girls and boys U12 games for the Cora Townsend and Ned Hayden trophies. The underage part of the competition winds up on the first weekend in July when U14 girls and boys will compete for the Tommy O’Neill and Peenie and Mick Whelan cups. This year a senior men’s and ladies tournament has been added to the programme and those categories will take place on the weekend of the 19th and 20th July in memory of former Tinryland legends Jim Deane and Joe O’Gorman.

Bennekerry-Tinryland ladies played a very prominent role in Carlow’s impressive win over London in the TG4 All Ireland ladies Junior football championship on Saturday last in Dublin.

Sinead Hayden was one of the standout BT players in action scoring 3 goals and 2 points  with Cliodhna Ni She accounting for 1-3, Sarah Nolan 1-1 and Maeve O’Neill scoring Carlows last goal in a 7-9 to 0-4 victory. Other BT players in action were Elaine Ware, Aoibhin Webb, Orla Woods, Shannen Cotter, Marie Cranny and Clodagh Mahon.

The club lotto jackpot still stands at €10,000 and can be played online via the club force app or by purchasing a ticket for the Monday evening draw from any committee member. Last weeks lucky dip winners were:  Regina White, Anne Byrne, Padraig Delaney, and Martin and Donal.
