     Tinryland G.F.C. Club Notes 25th May 2025

Tinryland senior footballers are one win away from a first Carlow Credit Union league division 1 title since 1968 following a dramatic last second winner scored by Maurice Lawler in the semi-final against Eire Og on Friday last. In a very entertaining game that saw brilliant scores from both teams Tinryland advanced to play Co. champions Rathvilly in the final. The league final has been  fixed for Friday 6th June at 8.30 p.m. as part of a double header with the Division 2 final .

The only game of note in the next seven days will be the division 3 relegation battle between Fighting Cocks and Tinryland which will take place on this coming Thursday 29th May at 7.30 p.m. in the Fighting Cocks.

It was a good week all round for the club with the U16 team winning silverware when they won the U16 Spring league division 2 title on Thursday last also against Eire Og. Outstanding for the boys in blue and white were Tadhg Deane, Cian McNamara, Dan Kehoe, Oisin Byrne and Max Duigan.

The Tinryland U12 squad were also successful during the past week when they defeated St. Martins on Thursday last. At U14 level Tinryland lost out to a strong Grange team on Wednesday last.

The hugely popular South East sevens tournament due to begin on Saturday 21st June has attracted an entry of 104 teams for the 6 underage competitions. 14 different counties are represented in the entries including teams from Armagh, Cavan, Dublin, Kildare Waterford and Wexford.

In addition to the underage competitions there will be a senior mens and a Senior ladies 7 a side tournament this year commencing on Saturday 19th July with the mens competition for the Joe O’Gorman shield in memory of the late club president Joe who passed away in January and who was an outstanding footballer for both Carlow and Tinryland. On the following day another great Tinryland stalwart Jim Deane will be remembered in the ladies 7 a side competition when the local club Bennekerry/Tinryland will be hoping to keep the trophy at home.

The club lotto jackpot of €10,000 still stands and can be played online via the clubforce app or by purchasing a ticket for the Monday night draw from any committee member. Last week’s lucky dip winners were: Sharon Sullivan, Catherine Murphy, Anne Purcell and Angela and Declan Carey.
