           Tinryland G.F.C Club Notes May 15th 2023

Highlight of the past week was a cracking final round game in the S.F.L Division 1 with our neighbours Palatine in Bennekerry on Friday last. This game doubled as the Andy Murphy shield final in aid of Carlow hospice. After a great game in which both sides had winning chances the game ended in a draw at 1-10 each thus preserving Tinryland’s unbeaten run in this year’s league. The team has now qualified for the league semi-final and we await the result of other final round games to determine who we play in the league semi-final. A large crowd at the game has ensured a healthy contribution will be made to Carlow Hospice. After the game the Andy Murphy shield was presented back to the holders Palatine by John Murphy youngest son of the late Andy Murphy who is remembered in this annual event.

At underage level our under 17 team were well beaten by Palatine on Monday last while our u13 team conceded 2 late goals to lose to Rathvilly at home on Sunday last.

In the coming week the Tinryland junior team operating in division 3 will play their final league game away to Old Leighlin on this coming Wednesday 17th May at 8 p.m. A win for the men in blue and white could mean an outside chance of reaching the semi-finals depending on other final round results. At underage level both of our U15 teams will be in action at home to Railyard on this Tuesday evening 7 p.m.  and away to Asca in the Presentation College on Thursday next 18th May at 7 p.m.

Plans have been announced for 4 major underage tournaments in our club in late June and early July. On Saturday 24th June and Sunday 25th June two seven a side U16 tournaments for Girls and boys will take place for the Mary Dwyer and Pat Doyle trophies while the following weekend on Saturday 1st July and Sunday 2nd July the 2nd staging of the Cora Townsend and Ned Hayden cup tournaments for U12 girls and boys will be held. It is hoped to have a launch night for all 4 tournaments in mid-June.

There has been a great positive response to the upcoming 4 month draw in conjunction with Carlow Co. Board. The draw which is over 4 months will commence on 3rd July with the 4th and final draw taking place on Monday 18th September. Tickets are on sale at €100 from committee members who are making a big effort to make this project a success. Payment plans to spread the cost over the 4 months can be arranged.

Well done to club member and Tinryland A.C. sprinter Adam Murphy who opened his outdoor track season by placing 3rd in the 200m in 21.72 at the Mary Peters track in Belfast on Saturday. It was Adam’s fastest ever season opener and augers well for the season ahead.

The club lotto jackpot now stands at €6000 and tickets can be purchased online or from any committee member for the Monday night draw.
