S.F.L. Div. 3

          O’Hanrahans 4-10               Tinryland 1-18

In as good a game of football that has been played at this level O’Hanrahans first 15 survived a great Tinryland 2nd half comeback to take the league points at Deerpark on Saturday evening.

After the away team had scored two quick points via Alan Barrett and Conall O’Shea shortly after the throw in The O’Hanrahans hit back with a goal and a point from their long serving club legend Mark Carpenter before Glen Doyle and his cousin Paul levelled matters by the 10th minute. O’Hanrahans  then settled down to dominate the remainder of the half and the Tinryland net was rattled twice when Danny Thompson crashed the ball past Daniel Donegan and veteran Carpenter was on hand to score his 2nd major just before the break. Tinryland gained further first half points via Paul Doyle, Mark Walshe and Alan Barrett to leave the scoreboard reading 3-7 to 0-7 when referee Eoin Evisson blew the half time whistle.

The Tinryland selectors rang the changes at half time introducing Peter Hennessy, Cian McGuire and Peter Whelan into the fray and their impact was almost immediate despite the home team notching the first point from former Tinryland player Owan O’Gorman. Between the 38th and 51st minute Tinryland scored 1-7 to narrow the gap to a single point. The Tinryland goal was scored by recently introduced sub. Evan Doyle with the seven points being shared by Chris Townsend (3), Peter Hennessy, Conall O’Shea, and Alan Barrett.  Mark Carpenter then settled the O’Hanrahans ship with 7 minutes remaining before Chris Townsend scored one of the points of the match to leave the minimum separating the sides once again. It got even better then for the men in blue and white when Conall O’Shea slotted over the equaliser with 3 minutes of normal time left but the Blues response was rapid after a Tinryland breakdown when Danny Thompson scored his second goal to put his team back in front by 3 points. Another Owan O’Gorman point looked to have sealed the issue for O’Hanrahans as the game entered 5 minutes of stoppage time but to their credit Tinryland kept plugging away and were rewarded with 3 further points via Keith Jackson (2) and Paul Doyle before the referee sounded the long whistle. Outstanding for the winners were Karol English, Ciaran Jones, Milo Feehan, John Nangle, Owan O’Gorman, Danny Thompson, Mark Carpenter and sub. Mark Davis.

For Tinryland Padraig Townsend, Luke Broderick, Keith Jackson, Paul Doyle, Alan Barrett, Chris Townsend, Conall O’Shea and subs Cian McGuire and Peter Hennessy stood out.
