Club notes

       Tinryland G F C Notes for August 8th 2022

The date for Tinryland’s opening game against Ballinabranna in the Michael Lyng Motors Hyundai senior football championship has been set. The game will take place in Netwatch Cullen Park on Saturday 20th August at 5 p.m. This will be the first game of a double header with Old Leighlin taking on Co. champions Rathvilly at 6.45 p.m. On the following day Sunday 21st August Tinryland junior team will play Fighting Cocks in the opening game of the Talbot Hotel J.F.C. with a 12 noon throw in at Rathcrogue.

At juvenile level Tinryland U13 team were involved in a high scoring game with Naomh Eoin on Sunday last in Myshall. In an evenly contested first half Tinryland shaded matters with great scores from Jamie Deane and Oisin Fagan. Early in the second half Naomh Eoin raced into a 4-point lead but goals from Conal Doyle, Rian Nolan and Tadgh Deane swung the momentum back in Tinryland’s favour and they ran out comfortable winners in the end. Outstanding for the boys in blue and white were Mark Cahill, Brandon Deane, Oisin Byrne, Jake Whelan, Jamie Deane and goalkeeper Noah Dowling. The clubs U11 team will be in action on Saturday next 13th August at home to Railyard at 2 p.m.

Bennekerry/Tinryland senior ladies opened their defence of the Carlow S.F title with a comfortable victory over Fenagh on Monday last. Outstanding for BT were Dee Tomlinson, Nuala Mohan, Elaine Ware, Niamh Kelly, Sinead Hayden and Leanne Corcoran.

The BT ladies will play in the Amanda Kinsella memorial tournament at the Palatine GAA grounds on Saturday next at 12 noon. The mens and womens tournament will involve teams from Ireland and the UAE and all proceeds will go to the Amy Lawlor fund in aid of cystic fibrosis sufferers.

The club lotto jackpot of €3700 was won on Monday last. Congratulations to the winner Tracey Doyle. Next weeks lotto jackpot will be €2000 and can be played via the Tinryland G.F.C. clubforce app or by purchasing a ticket from any committee member.

Preparations are at an advanced stage for the Declan Nerney concert to be held in our club on the afternoon of Sunday August 21st. Tickets are available in the clubhouse at €15.

Congratulations and best wishes to former player Marcus Lawler who has been selected on the Irish team for the European Athletics championships which take place in Munich from 15th to 21st August. Marcus will compete in the 200m and sprint relay.
