Club notes

Tinryland G.F.C. club notes for 23rd July 2022

There was deep sadness in Tinryland G.F.C. on Wednesday last 20th July when word came through of the passing of Tom Darcy in his native Co. Offaly. Tom played a big part in our club from the early 1970’s when he joined Tinryland having taken up an appointment as head of P.E. at Carlow I.T.

He began playing and training Tinryland senior teams at that time and enjoyed considerable success as a player/coach during a golden era for the club during the 1970’s and early eighties.

As a player Tom Darcy won Carlow S.F.C. medals in 1979 and 1981 and he continued to be involved with our club during the eighties and nineties winning a J.F.C. medal in 1988. Tom also had a spell as manager of Carlow senior footballers and with Fenagh G.F.C.

At his removal on Friday last from his home in Cloghan Co Offaly his former Tinryland team mates formed a guard of honour and flags flew at half- mast at our club grounds in Rathcrogue.

Our U17 team recent winners over Rathvilly will be back in action again in the coming week.

They were away to Bagenalstown Gaels last evening (Monday) and they will be at home to Naomh Eoin on Monday next 1st August at 7 p.m.

The club lotto jackpot has now reached €2600 and can be played online via the Tinryland G.F.C. clubforce app or by purchasing a ticket from any committee member.

Details have recently been announced for a memorial tournament to honour the memory of the late Bennekerry/Tinryland player Amanda Kinsella on the 1st anniversary of her passing on 13th August.

The four Ladies teams in action on the day at Palatine GAA grounds will be Bennekerry/Tinryland, Arabian Celts, Clann Oman GFC and a St. Pats. Drumcondra/St Leo’s Carlow selection.

In the mens tournament Palatine, Arabian Celts, Clann Oman and Moyvane from Kerry will make up the 4 team competition.
