Club notes

Tinryland GFC Club Notes for 19th July 2022

With hurling dominating the GAA scene in Carlow at present it was another quiet week on the football scene. There was only one team from our club in action in the past week with our youngest team the U11s defeating Rathvilly on Saturday last. This team will be back in action on Tuesday 19th July away to Clonmore.  At U17 level Tinryland will be away to Bagenalstown Gaels on Monday next 25th July at 7 p.m. in McGrath Park.

Preparations are at an advanced stage for a music event in our club on Sunday 21st August. Leading country and western artist Declan Nerney and his band will top the bill at an afternoon concert in our club on Sunday 21st August. The support act on the day will be the recently reformed Ritz showband who have performed at several local venues since they came back on the scene this year.

Several club members have tasted success in other sports recently.

In athletics Adam Murphy and Padraig Webb from Tinryland A.C. have put up good performances in sprinting and distance running in the past week. Adam followed up a good run in the Cork City Sports by placing 5th in the Flanders cup in Belgium on Saturday last clocking 21.91 for the 200m. This backed up and even faster time of 21.84 at the Cork City Sports on the previous week.

Padraig Webb has been a revelation this season and he won the 5th stage of the St Abbans summer league against 113 other runners in Ballylinan clocking 13.30 for the 4.9 k race. He followed that run up with 2 great wins in the Tullow and Achill (Mayo) park runs.

In horse racing Tinryland G.F.C. sponsor Shay Byrne tasted success when his horse Takarengo won the Corinthian Challenge race at the Curragh on Sunday last. Takarengo is trained in Goresbridge by Tom Mullins and was well ridden by Jane Davis. The winning horse will now head to the Galway races.

Club member and local greyhound trainer Donal Murphy tasted success also when Tinryland Boy owned and bred by him won in Shelbourne park clocking 28.88 for the 525m race
