Tinryland G.F.C. Club Notes 10th July 2022
The highlight of the past week was the hugely successful 2 day underage tournament held in our club on Saturday and Sunday last. The event on both days was blessed with superb weather and attracted 26 club teams from eight different counties. Day 1 of the event was for girls’ teams and after a day of very competitive football, emerging ladies club Fighting Cocks were winners of the (A) division for the Cora Townsend perpetual cup. The Fighting Cocks defeated St Conleths (Laois), Railyard (Kilkenny), Old Leighlin and Clonmore on their way to the final where they defeated Baltinglass after a very entertaining game. The shield final was won by St Conleths from Laois who defeated Old Leighlin in the final. Padraig Townsend son of the late Cora presented the Cora Townsend perpetual cup to Fighting Cocks captain Ella McDonald and the Cora Townsend shield to St. Conleths captain Emer Byrne.
On Sunday it was the turn of the boys and after a day full of exciting football Palatine emerged as winners of the Ned Hayden perpetual cup with Baltinglass winning the Ned Hayden Shield both held in memory of one of the founder members of the current Tinryland club. Pat Hayden current vice president of Tinryland G.F.C. and son of the late Ned Hayden presented the cup to Palatine captain Paddy Doyle and the shield to Tadgh Riordan the Baltinglass captain. At the presentation ceremony Tinryland chairman Bernard Mullen thanked all the clubs who travelled for a most enjoyable tournament.
Well done to juvenile section chairman Peter Scully and club treasurer Michael Ryan together with their team of helpers for their tremendous work in successfully completing this event and it is fairly certain that this tournament will be a permanent fixture in the calender in future years.
It was another quiet week on the playing front and apart from a few challenge games at adult level there was one game played at juvenile level with Tinryland U15 team defeating St Patricks by 2 points at Brother Leo Park on Wednesday last.
The club lotto jackpot currently stands at €3500 and can be played via the Tinryland G.F.C. club force app or buy purchasing a ticket prior to the Monday night draw in the clubhouse.
