S.F.L. Division 2

                Eire Og 0-12                    Tinryland  0-8

Eire Og maintained their unbeaten record in league 2 with a 4 point win over the home team at Rathcrogue on Sunday evening. Tinryland were also unbeaten going into this game and they took the lead in the 4th minute with a Glenn Doyle point after some slick combination play. Eire Og cancelled out the advantage in the 7th minute when their top scorer Adam McCarron successfully converted a free. Padraic Whelan then pointed a free for Tinryland and the same player then converted one of the scores of the game when he pointed following great work by Cormac McElligott and Eoghan Hosey. Adam McCarron then tacked on 2 quick points for the YI’s to leave matters all square at the first water break.

It took seven minutes for the next score to arrive and once again it was McCarron who converted a free for Eire Og which was cancelled out by a Glenn Doyle point to leave the sides deadlocked once again. The closing stages of the first half saw Eire Og apply more pressure and they tacked on two points via Eoin Byrne and Adam McCarron before referee Seamus Doyle sounded the half time whistle. Half time score Eire Og 0-6 Tinryland 0-4.

When play re-started Tinryland were on the scoreboard within 15 seconds of the throw in when Glenn Doyle pointed following a pristine pass from Padraic Whelan. Eire Og replied with a Luke Reamsbottom point before Eoghan Hosey reduced the margin to the minimum with a sublime point in the 35th minute. Eire Og then began to get a grip on the game with the introduction of substitute Anthony Keating who scored 2 points shortly after his introduction.  Further E.O. points from David Murphy and Dean Hayden stretched their advantage to 4 points by the 2nd water break as Tinryland also began emptying their bench. With thundery rain beginning to fall conditions became difficult for both teams but the home side never stopped trying and points from Stefan Hellibrand and Michael Mullen kept the winners honest right to the end.
