S.F.L. Div. 2

Tinryland 3-7                        Mount Leinster Rangers 2-9

Recently promoted Tinryland’s 2nd squad shocked the 2020 senior semi-finallists Mount Leinster Rangers in a cracking game of football at Rathcrogue on Sunday evening 20th June.

Having defeated Railyard in the opening league game in Moneenroe on the previous Sunday the Tinryland 2nd squad were faced with a big step up against Rangers who will face Eire Og in the deferred 2020 S.F.C. semi-final.

Tinryland were magnificent in this game and they stayed in contact with their south Carlow opponents in a well contested first half.    When referee Damien Brady sounded the half- time whistle the scoreboard read M.L.R. 1-5 Tinryland 0-4 with the Tinryland goal coming from Evan Doyle who is really showing his class despite being in the twilight of his football career.

Tinryland continued to hold their own in the period before the 2nd water break and they never let M.L.R. establish a significant advantage as the game entered the closing stages.  The men in blue and white watched by senior manager Steve O’Meara were then rewarded for their enterprising play when they took the lead in the closing stages with a cracking Evan Doyle goal and despite intense pressure from Rangers they held on for a great victory. All 16 players used on Sunday were magnificent in this game but those who stood out included goalkeeper Chris Townsend, Peter Doran, Eoghan Hosey, Padraic Whelan, Ciaran Larkin, Conor McGrath, Mark Lawlor, John Paul Moore and the Doyle brothers Evan and Glen. Tinryland will now face high flying Ballinabranna in Pairc Liam Dob on Sunday next as they try to maintain their unbeaten record in the S.F.L. division 2.

Tinryland: Chris Townsend, Cian Nicholl, Peter Doran, Joey Ryan, John Paul Moore 0-1, Ciaran Larkin, Padraig Townsend 0-1, Glen Doyle 1-1, Mark Lawlor 0-1, Cormac McElligott, 0-1, Padraic Whelan, Eoghan Hosey, Conor McGrath, Adam Fennelly 0-1, Evan Doyle 2-1, Stefan Hillebrand.
