O'Hanrahans v Tinryland

                                        Tinryland 2-12                      O’Hanrahans 0-4

Tinryland seniors started the Steve O’Meara management era with a comprehensive defeat of O’Hanrahans in the S.F.L division 1 at Deerpark on Friday 11th June.

The well organised men in blue and white were never troubled after they opened a 3point lead by the 1st water break even though the home team had the benefit of the strong breeze in the opening half. With experienced midfielders Cormac Walshe and Conor Byrne dominating in the middle and a great defensive set up protecting goalie Ciaran Byrne, Tinryland were well worth their lead with a quartet of opening points from Matthew O’Toole, Diarmaid and Cormac Walshe (2)

A feature of this stage of the game was how well the senior debutants Conor Brennan, Cian Nichol and Mikey Byrne were settling in. It took O ‘Hanrahans 16 minutes to register their first score from former county player Simon Doyle. Tinryland continued to dominate the closing stages of the half adding on further points via Peter Hennessy and Richie Whyte before Mark Davis closed the first half scoring for the Blues. This left the half time score Tinryland 0-6 O’ Hanrahans 0-2.

When play resumed Dinny Farrell was introduced for Matthew O’Toole with Conor McGrath coming on for the youthful Cian Nichol who had a very successful senior debut with the hoops.

Tinryland once again dominated the early stages with Diarmaid Walshe slotting over a point after good play by Peter Hennessy who also shone in this game. Great play by Conor Brennan in the 38th minute resulted in another successful free from Diarmaid Walshe before the Blues replied with a Lee Walker point. The game was then well and truly put out of the O’Hanrahan reach when Cormac Walshe rattled the net at the road end following good play by Diarmaid. Good play by Mickey Byrne resulted in a Conor Brennan point and the icing was applied to the cake when Diarmaid rattled the blues net for a second time with 13 minutes remaining. The Tinryland manager and his assistant Eamonn O’Sullivan rang further changes with Mark Lawlor entering the fray for Richie Whyte, Mark Morrissey replacing Keelan Gaffney who ran himself to a standstill and Padraig Townsend replacing Diarmaid Walshe who finished with a personal tally of 1-3. With the game well over as a contest Tinryland continued to apply pressure finishing the game on a high note with well taken points from the energetic Niall Lowry and sub Dinny Farrell who also looked lively when he was introduced.

This was a very satisfactory opening day win but Tinryland will face much sterner opposition on Friday next 18th June when Rathvilly will visit Rathcrogue at 7.30 p.m.
