All square in Trim for Ballinabrackey and Duleek Bellewstown.

Ballinabrackey 2:09

Duleek Bellewstown 1:12

It was a day we didn’t think we would see in 2020, but on the first of August, championship kicked off for group D in the Intermediate Football Championship. This was a game of two halves with both teams shining in each half. The Bracks started strong with an impresssive first half, but Duleek Bellewstown bounced back in the second half and the Bracks were left scraping a draw after an 8 point lead.

David Carroll got the Bracks on the scoreboard with a lovely opening point. Ballinabrackey started well with some of our younger footballers getting their first proper taste of intermediate championship. Well taken points from Seamus Curry and David Carroll gave the Bracks a comfortable start as Duleek Bellewstown found it hard to find their feet. At the first water break, Ballinabrackey were four points to Duleek’s two. Back on the pitch when a short kickout was won and quickly turned

over by Ballinabrackey, the ball was in the back of net by Barry Thompson. Duleek responded to this with two points from play. Another momentous moment in the game was a penalty to Ballinabrackey which was struck well by David Carroll that sent the Bracks on their way with an 8 point lead as the first half wrapped up.

Duleek Bellewstown needed to start well and that’s exactly what they did coming out for this second half. Ballinabrackey were down to 14 men as Derek Flynn got a black card, this gave Duleek Bellewstown time to push on and they fired a number of scores at the Bracks without a response. At this stage, the game had turned and a goal from Duleek Bellewstown left the Bracks in real danger. Ballinabrackey sub Damien Carroll graced the pitch and proved to be the only Bracks’ player to score in the second half with his three points keeping us in the game. A late score from Duleek Bellewstown left the match even. Both teams will take them he draw, but it means everything will be left to play for in the last two rounds of group D. Exciting times ahead.
