County Senior Football League Division 1 Round 4 - St Marys vs Austin Stacks

St Marys hosted Austin Stacks on Sunday April 24th in the fourth round of the 2022 county league. A minute's silence was held before throw-in for former St Marys player John Griffin (RIP). The first score of the game came from Sean Quilter of Austin Stacks after two and a half minutes of play. Tadhg O’Connor scored a free for the home side which was followed by a point from Cian Purcell of Austin Stacks. St Marys scored three further points, a 45 and a free from Tadhg O’Connor and a point from Conor Quirke. Sean Quilter scored Stacks’ third point from a free. Tadhg O’Connor and Anthony Cournane both pointed from play for the hosts before Brendan O’Sullivan put his name on the scoresheet. A St Marys goal attempt was saved by Stacks goalie Ben Quilter. The away team scored three unanswered frees, Sean Quilter x2 and Michael O’Donnell, before St Marys’ Tadhg O’Connor scored from play to leave a half time score of 7 points apiece. 

 

Sean Quilter got the scoring underway in the second half from a free. 5 minutes later David Fitzmaurice scored from play to put the away side two points ahead. Declan Keating scored a free for St Marys in the ninth minute, their first score of the second half. Austin Stacks kicked three points, Michael O’Gara, Donagh McMahon and Michael O’Donnell (free), before Anthony Cournane responded with a point from a free for St Marys. Kain O’Shea scored his first ever senior goal in the twentieth minute to level the game once again. The next score of the game came nine minutes later when Anthony Cournane scored from play to put the home side a point ahead. A Michael O’Donnell free a minute later levelled the game once again before Anthony Cournane kicked one final point to give St Marys their first two points of the season. Full time score: 1-11 to 13 points.
