St Lomans GAA Club Notes 13/03/2023:

ACFL Division 4:

St Lomans Mullingar 2-06 Shandonagh 2-08

Last Tuesday St Lomans Mullingar welcomed Shandonagh to Home Instead Lakepoint Park on a bitterly cold March night. The visitors were much stronger in the opening half outscoring the Blues by 2-03 to a point, Conan O’Hara getting the Blues’ only score of the half. Things were looking ominous for the home side at the break with Shandonagh leading by eight.

The Saints introduced several substitutes in the second half which suddenly breathed new life into the game. The Hosts outscored their opponents by five points to two in the third quarter with Tom Dorr, Conan O’Hara, Darren Kavanagh and a Daniel McCann double doing the damage for Lomans. The Blues were well and truly back in it when a goalmouth scramble ended with the ball being turned into the Shandonagh net via a couple of ricochets, substitutes Shane Mulderry and Mark Tunney were in amongst the action so credit must go to them for forcing the goal. Another substite Nathan Sleator was amongst the gaols when he cooly finished off a great team move to put the Saints ahead with five minutes to play. However a late rally from the visitors broke Lomans hearts, with substitute Jake Costello doing the damage for Shandonagh.

Despite the defeat St Lomans will be pleased at several performances and be particularly pleased at the second half comeback. Substitutes Shane Mulderry, Mark Tunney, Adam Brady and Nathan Sleator all made a difference when coming on. The pick of the Lomans performances though would have to be Evan Johnson who was superb at the back, and his never say die attitude is a great example to any player. Next up is St Joseph’s at home on Sunday 19th of March at 11:30am.
