St Lomans GAA Club Notes 03/10/2022:

Under 13 Division 1 Final:

St Lomans Mullingar 1-07 Shandonagh 1-10

Hard luck to our Under 13 boys who were defeated narrowly by Shandonagh in Ballyncargy last Saturday. Both Sides traded two scores each with Cian Matthews on target with two excellent points. Shandonagh got the next five scores with their marquee man Stephen McWade hitting five points in a row. Cathal Kilmuarray netted for the Blues with a well-taken goal followed by a point from Luke Bully to leave single point between the teams. However, McWade found the net for Shandonagh on the stroke of half time, followed by another point to leave the Saints five points down to the interval.

The Sides traded scores in the opening minutes of the second period, Lomans points coming from an excellent double from Cathal Kilmurray. The Blues battled back to within a score courtesy of two placed balls from Cian Matthews. The Saints pushed in the closing stages for a goal to draw level and even hit the post on once occasion, but Shandonagh held out for a narrow win.

Hard luck to the team who put in a huge collective effort and left everything on the pitch but ultimately it was Shandonagh’s Stephen McWade who was the difference kicking 1-09 out of 1-10. The Lomans men can be proud of their year where they did themselves proud and put in tremendous effort. Finally, a huge thanks to the management team of Mark Breslin, Enda Matthews, Eddie Gallagher and Joe Matthews for their hard-work with the lads this year.

Under 14 Girls Division 4 Final:

St Lomans Mullingar 1-00 Garrycastle 0-04

Hard luck to our under 14 girls who were defeated by Garrycastle narrowly in a nail biting encounter. Well done to the girls who put in a huge effort throughout the year and thanks to the management for devoting their time this year also.

Under 13 Division 3 Boys Shield Final:

Hard luck to our U13 Division 3 side who were beaten by a physically superior St Paul’s team in a highly competitive Shield Final played in Clonmellon last Wednesday.

Our opponents flew out of the traps but super defending by Evin Smyth, captain Peter Raleigh and Liam Ford thwarted them on several occasions with 'keeper Dillon O'Brien making some excellent saves during this period too. They finally got the scores their dominance deserved but we responded well when Eli Greene set up Darragh Boyd for our opening score. David Connell slotted another point moments later after excellent approach play from Conor Raleigh and Matthew Kenny.

The second half began with some sustained pressure from our boys and we got rewarded when the impressive Michael Long rifled a ball to the top corner of the net. David Connell finished smartly to the net moments later and Darragh Boyd raised two more white flags but our opponents upped their performance in the final quarter and eventually ran out comfortable victors. Most impressive on the evening for the Blues were Shane McSherry, Michael Long, Evin Smyth, Peter Raleigh, Matthew Kenny, Conor Raleigh, David Connell, James McDonnell and Darragh Boyd.

Congratulations to St Paul’s on their deserved victory and to referee Mick Gordon for a great display of officiating.

Team: Dillon O’Brien; Louis Bracken, Evin Smyth, Liam Ford; Michael Long, Peter Raleigh, Shane McSherry; Matthew Kenny, Conor Raleigh; David Connell, Darragh Boyd, Riley Thornton; Eli Greene, Lukas Chye, James McDonnell.
