St Lomans GAA Club Notes 11/07/2022:

Junior B Championship:

St Lomans Mullingar 3-10 Mullingar Shamrocks 5-14

St Lomans bowed out of the Junior B Championship after a defeat to neighbours Mullingar Shamrocks in Springfield. The First quarter was nip and tuck with both sides level on the scoreboard. A brilliant goal and point from Conor Cochrane cancelling out Gary Corroon’s frees. Shamrocks found the net for their first goal of the night before The Blues replied with a superb goal from Nedas Bielicas. The Sides traded two scores each at the end of the first half with Tadhg Kenny and Ross Clinton on target for the visitors, which saw the sides all square at the interval.

The Hosts started the second half the brighter scoring 1-02 without reply. Richie Cleary’s men responded with scores from Conor Cochrane and Ross Clinton. Gary Corroon hit two scores from placed balls to extend Shamrock’s lead. Ross Clinton reduced the arrears fore the Blues. Then Conor Cochrane pounced on a misplaced kickout and hit a perfectly executed lob from 45 metres into the Shamrocks net for undoubtedly the score of the night. Ross Clinton then hit a superb double and suddenly the Saints were ahead going into the last quarter. However, the Hosts introduced a few substitutions that ran the Lomans defence ragged in the final quarter when they out scored Lomans 3-04 to 0-02 which was ultimately the winning of the game. This result sees the end of our junior b campaign, thanks to Richie Cleary, Dickie Geoghegan and James Davitt for their help with the team.

Team; Daire Keane, Evan Johnson, Adam Carroll, Nigel Graham, Tom Dorr, Darren Kavanagh, Kealan Sleator, Hugh Mulhern, Nedas Bielicas (1.00), Ciaran Egerton, Ross Clinton (0.06,0.04f), Eoghan Kenny, Tadhg Kenny (0.01), Conor Cochrane (2.03, 0.02f), Ciaran Smyth. Under 17 Championship:

St Lomans Mullingar 1-12 Athlone 1-05

St Lomans Minor Boys kicked off their championship last Monday night when they welcomed Athlone to Lakepoint Park. Athlone opened the scoring, but the Blues hit four points in a row in response through Seanai Bracken, Daniel McCann, Shane Mulderry and Ross Killalea. The Visitors were soon level with three unsewered points. The Blues struck a massive blow halfway through the first half after Daniel McCann found Ross Killalea with a brilliant pass and the former dispatched to the net. The Sainst hit three further points with Shane Mulderry pointing either side of two McCann points before Athlone hit their final point of the half to leave five between the sides at the break.

The visitors found the net early in the second half to make it a two-point match. Remarkably this was to be Athlone’s last score of the match. The Blues dominated the second half hitting five points in a row through Adam Brady, a double from McCann and two points from Mark Tunney to close out the game and get the win. On the night there were excellent performances from Mark Lancaster, Byron Graham, Ross Killalea and Mark Tunney. However, the standout player was Daniel McCann who was ultimately the difference between the sides.

Team: Callum Butler Dolan, Mark Lancaster, Riley Sheahan, Rory Doonan, JJ McNamee, Byron Graham, Shane Mulderry (0.02), Ross Killalea (1.01), Seanai Bracken (0.01), Adam Brady (0.01), Daniel McCann (0.05,0.01f), Luke Heduvan, Mark Tunney (0.02), Daniel Connaughton, Shane Cunningham.
