St Lomans GAA Club Notes 04/07/2022:

Ladies Division 5 League Final:

St Lomans Mullingar 4-08 Delvin/St Pauls 5-12

Last Sunday our division 5 ladies faced Delvin/St Pauls in the league final held in Killucan. A Blues’ side which was short several key players for a variety of reasons were underdogs going into the game. The Saints had the aid of a significant breeze in the first half and got the scoring underway through Phoebe Harte. Delvin responded with a goal, but it was cancelled out when Caoimhe Kilmurray found the net for the Hosts. The sides then traded two scores each with Kilmurray and Paige Matthews on target. The pair pointed again to give Ryan Jones’ team a three-point advantage, but the opposition responded with a double before the break to leave just a solitary point between the sides at the interval.

The Blues had a slow start to the second half and struggled against the wind, as they were outscored 1-03 to a point in the opening period of the first half, with Phoebe Harte getting the only score for the Saints to leave Lomans trailing by 4. Then Kilmurray hit her second goal of the game to bring the deficit back to a point. However, this was cancelled out when the Blues conceded four unanswered points. The sides traded scores once more with Paige Matthews on target from a free. A fourth goal for Delvin then seemed to put the game to bed. However, our girls kept going and responded when Caoimhe Kilmurray pointed. Kilmurray then completed her hat trick when she perfectly placed a free kick into the top corner to leave a four-point gap in the closing stages. Delvin hit a fifth goal late on to rub salt in the wounds which saw them run out seven-point winners.

In truth, the better team won on the day, but the Blues gave a very spirited performance, especially considering the number of players unavailable. Our more experienced girls were brilliant throughout, the likes of Aileen Martin, Lisa Owens and Catie Heslin rolling back the years. Annie Kilmuarry, Emma Galvin and Caoimhe Kilmurray were also excellent. Caoimhe can count herself unlucky not to have been given more a few more free kicks on the day. Hopefully the Blues can build on this performance with Senior, Senior B and Minor championship all commencing in the coming weeks.

Under 15 Boys and Girls Feile:

Well done to our under 15 Boys and Girls who represented their club and county with distinction at the John West Feile.

Our girls defeated Blessington, St Patrick’s Stamullen and St Odhrans Silvermines before crashing out in the semi final to a strong Mulahoran side.

The lads beat St Joseph’s Doorabarefield and Blessington in the group as well as a defeat to Dromintee. The boys journey also came to and end in the semi final losing to Durlas Og.

Well done to both sides on doing brilliantly in Hawkfield on a weekend they’ll never forget. Finally a massive thank to the management teams. The girls managed by Stephanie Kilmurray, Niall Scally and Therese Hogan. The lads managed by Tony Plunkett and Adrian Hogg. Thanks to the coaches for their hard work and dedication to their teams.
