ACFL Division 1:
St Lomans Mullingar 1-10 The Downs 1-12
St Lomans unbeaten run came to an end last Friday evening at the hands of The Downs. On a night where weather conditions proved to be difficult, St Loman’s scored an early goal after the returning Shane Dempsey bounced on a fumble from Downs Goalkeeper Adam Conneely and finished into the empty net. The Downs responded with a double from Conor Murray and an Ian Martin point to level the score. The Blues regained the lead with two well-taken points from Danny McCartan. The sides then exchanged scores with Shane Dempsey on target for the Saints. Murray pointed for the visitors before the break, moments later Shane Dempsey looked to have restored a two-point lead when his shot hit the inside of the post and appeared to go over the bar, but mysteriously his effort was waved wide by the umpire leaving the minimum between the sides of the break.
The Sides traded blows at the beginning of the second interval with TJ Cox at the double for the Hosts. The teams were level coming into the closing stages when Ciaran Nolan pointed either side of an excellent Shane Dempsey score. McCartan put the Saints in front but were pegged back when Dylan Carroll tied the game. Andrew Kilmartin netted for the visitors with less than five minutes left which put the Black and Amber in the driving seat. St Lomans looked to reduce the arrears with Shane Boyce and Paul Whelehan pointing either side of another Dylan Carroll effort. The Blues searched for a late goal to snatch victory and had their chances but ultimately could not take them as the Visitors ran out narrow victors.
For Declan Kelly’s charges Kelvin Reilly and Conor O’Donoghue performed well in defence. Up front Danny McCartan caused problems for the Downs defence, McCartan ended up with three points from play on the night. Finally, Shane Dempsey looked very sharp on the night, Dempsey could have been forgiven for being ring-rusty after almost three years in the middle east, but he was a threat all night and finished with a tally of 1-03, it is great to see Shane back in a blue shirt again. St Lomans face Castledaly in a fortnight’s time.

ACFL Division 3:
St Lomans Mullingar 1-08 Kilbeggan Shamrocks 1-10
On a wet and windy Sunday morning in Lakepoint park St Lomans welcomed Kilbeggan. Conditions were exceedingly difficult, and scores were at a premium in the first half. The visitors lead by five points to four at the Interval. Lomans scores came from Adam O’Connor and a trio of points from Cian Cleary. The Second period saw both sides trade two scores each with Cian Cleary and Daryl Quinn on target for the Saints.
In the late stages the game really took on a life of its own. The Hosts took the lead for the first time when Daryl Quinn pounced on a loose ball and fired a low snapshot into the bottom of the Kilbeggan net. The Blues kicked on with scores from Cleary and Killian Browne widening the gap to three points. It looked as though Lomans were going to steal victory but a late flurry from Kilbeggan saw them rack up a further goal and two points to snatch victory for the Visitors. It was a very tight game which could have went either way but unfortunately for the Mullingar men, Kilbeggan ran out two-point winners. On the day Andrew Daly and Tristan Graham were superb in defence. Daryl Quinn was a handful for the KIlbeggan defence, as was Cian Cleary. The returning Conradh Reilly was reliable as ever. The Blues are out again in a fortnights time.
Team; Rory Matthews, Ethan Browne, Gerry Grehan, Kealan Sleator, Tristan Graham, Eoghan O’Keefe, Andrew Daly, Daryl Quinn (1.01), Conan O’Hara, Darren Kavanagh, Conradh Reilly, Killian Browne (0.01), Adam O’Connor (0.01), David Aughey, Cian Cleary (0.05). Subs used, Evan Johnson
ACFL Division 4:
St Lomans Mullingar 2-13 Moate All Whites 0-08
Last Saturday evening St Lomans made the trip down the M6 to take on Moate All Whites on a perfect evening for football. Both sides traded scores in the opening quarter with Oisín Hogan, Garett Hickey and David Windsor on target for the Blues. The Saints pushed on with three unanswered scores before the break. First Garrett Hickey pointed after claiming a mark, Hickey then added to his tally after a super pass from David Windsor, Hickey then turned provider and found Winsor who got his second point of the evening giving the visitors a three-point lead at the interval.
The Mullingar Men started the stronger of the two teams in the second half. Conan O’Hara pointed from a placed ball. O’Hara then laid the ball on a plate for Killian Browne for the opening goal of the match to give the Saints breathing space. The sides once again exchanged scores with Eoghan Hogan, Eoghan O’Keefe and Adam O’Connor on target for the Blues. A magnificent point from Conan O’Hara strengthened the Saints position even further. Shortly after Killian Browne fired a rocket into the net via the crossbar for his second goal of the game. Andrew Daly got the Visitors final point of the game and Lomans ran out comfortable eleven-point victors.
Ethan Browne and Oisín Hogan were excellent in defence. Jack Geoghegan and Eoghan O’Keefe were dominant in the middle of the park. Conan O’Hara and Garett Hickey were deadly accurate up top. So, the Blues continue their 100% record in division 4, and face The Downs next time out.

Senior Ladies Division 1:
St Lomans Mullingar 1-08 St Mary’s Rochfortbridge 4-10
Last Thursday evening St Lomans welcomed Senior Champions St Mary’s Rochfortbridge to Lakepoint Park. The Blues were missing many members of last year’s panel largely due to County commitments. The visitors were quick off the mark and raced into an eight-point lead hitting 1-05 without reply. The Hosts got off the mark when Niamh McGinley was taken down and referee Mick Gordon pointed to the penalty spot. Sarah McManus stepped up and the outcome was never in doubt, McManus hit the back of the net to settle Lomans down. Both teams exchanged scores before the break with McManus and Bridgie Heslin on target for Lomans. At Half time the score stood at 1-07 to 1-02 in favour of The Bridge.
The Second half was extremely competitive with both sides putting in huge effort. St Mary’s outscored the Saints three points to one in the early stages of the second half, McManus once again on target for Lomans. However, a manic two minutes was ultimately the decider, The visitors hit three goals in the space of two minutes which ended any hopes of a Lomans fightback. To their credit the Blues never gave up and scrapped until the final whistle and reeled off four unanswered points in the closing stages, one Bridgie Heslin point and three excellent points from Sarah McManus bringing her up to an impressive tally to 1-06
An incredibly competitive performance from the Saints. Many positive performances for our girls with Ella Daly and Emma Keena impressing at the back. Up front Julie McLaughlin was excellent, and Sarah McManus was undoubtedly player of the match for the Blues, McManus turned in an exhibition in front of goal. A special mention must go to all the Under 16 girls who togged out and more than held their own against the county Champions. Niamh McKenna, Lara McCartan, Paige Matthews, Rachel McKenna, Shauna Traynor, Abbie Devine and Abbie Norris can all be proud of how they acquitted themselves at Senior level. St Lomans should take heart from this as Rochfortbridge are an excellent side and will no doubt be there or thereabouts in terms of the 2021 Senior Championship. St Lomans Mullingar also wish a speedy recovery to St Mary’s full-back Aoife Moran who sustained an injury during the match.
Team; Jane McKenna, Niamh McKenna, Susan Brady, Ella Daly, Lara McCartan, Keelie Mulderry, Emma Keena, Paige Matthews, Evie Daly, Julie McLaughlin, Rachel McKenna, Sophie Treanor, Sarah McManus (1.06, 1.04f), Bridgie Heslin (0.02), Niamh McGinley. Subs Used, Abbie Devine, Abbie Norris.
