Junior B Championship:

St Lomans Mullingar 1-20 Ballycamoyle 1-08

St Lomans made it two wins from two in the Junior B Championship last Tuesday night with a comprehensive win in Ballycamoyle. The Saints got the scoring under way through Adam Lynch and a Conan O’Hara free. The Hosts then had their best spell of the game scoring four unanswered points to give Ballycamoyle a two-point lead, Marcus Kennedy among the scorers for the Hosts. Two excellent long-range efforts from Conan O’Hara brought Lomans level just before the first water break. The Visitors really hit their stride in the second quarter. Initially Both sides traded scores with Hugh Mulhern on target for Lomans. The Saints then hit six points on the spin through Senan Russell, Hugh Mulhern, Johnny Mee, Cian Cleary and a double from Adam Lynch, giving the Mullingar men a six-point advantage at the interval.

The Second half began with the visitors on top once more Cian Cleary and Adam Lynch on target once more. The sides once again exchanged scores with Conan O’Hara and Senan Russell adding to their tallies for the evening. O’Hara was not finished there he was on hand moments laterto jink by a Ballycamoyle defender and finished with ease for the opening goal of the match. Cleary and Mulhern widened the gap to twelve points at the second water break. Credit to the Hosts who plugged away and hit a quickfire goal and point to reduce the gap. The Saints pushed on for three late scores through Hugh Mulhern, Senan Russell and excellent point from the returning Barry McEntee.

A comfortable win for the Mullingar Men in the end, with many excellent individual performances. The experienced Seanie Dinnegan and Senan Russell were immense in defence, Russell also hit three points, a formidable return for a man known for his defending. Conan O’Hara and Adam Lynch were superb up front with O’Hara giving an exhibition in point scoring. The Blues face Bunbrosna next time out.

Senior Ladies Division 1:

St Lomans Mullingar 2-08 Milltown 4-13

St Lomans Ladies travelled to Milltown last Thursday on an extremely warm summer evening. In truth Milltown were by far the better team in the first half outscoring Lomans 3-10 to 0-05 at the break. Highlights for the Blues included excellent points from Caoimhe Kilmurray, Evie Daly and Paige Matthews on top of two placed balls from Sarah McManus. The Saints struggled to deal with the physicality of an excellent Milltown side in the early stages.

Lomans were significantly improved in the second half outscoring the Hosts 2-3 to 1-03 in the second half.  The Hosts started the second half where they left off in the first a quickfire goal and point. Caoimhe Kilmurray responded with an excellent point. Kilmurray then got on the end of a superb ball from substitute Niamh McKenna and the former rounded the goalkeeper and finished into the empty net. Both sides then traded scores with Niamh McGinley and Caoimhe Kilmurray once again on target for the visitors. St Lomans had the final word when Rachel and Niamh McKenna combined with Eve Hickey, Rachel then laid it off to Niamh Egerton who buried her shot into the net for the Blues second goal of the evening.

A much improved second half performance for the Saints. Many positive performances for our girls with Emma Keena and Ellen Kilmurray impressing at the back. Caoimhe Kilmurray was excellent all night and worked tirelessly covering every blade of grass. The Blues’ six subs added extra impetus off the bench. St Lomans should take heart from this as Milltown are an excellent side and will no doubt be there or thereabouts in terms of the 2021 Senior Championship.
