St Lomans GAA Club Notes 02/11/2020:
Covid-19:
As we continue in level 5 restrictions, the GAA continues to impose its ban on all club activity. Please stay at home and follow the HSE guidelines.
Congratulations:
Well done to Westmeath Ladies who defeated Longford convincingly in the first round of the Intermediate All Ireland Championship. Special mention to our 4 representatives on the panel Leona Archibald, Ciara Blundell, Lucy McCartan and Vicky Carr.
Special Mention:
In the week after our county final win star player Ronan O Toole paid a visit to one of the many supporters who could not be with us in Cusack Park to see our county final win. Mel Hughes is a former player and mentor and has been a steadfast supporter of the club for many years. Mel in addition to playing and acting as a trustee of the club devoted many countless hours of labour to looking after the playing pitches and grounds. His work in renovating and repointing the perimeter wall was a mammoth task of work carried out in his own unassuming manner and applying his craftsmanship to a finished work that will be there many generations to see.
Mel was delighted to be able to share some memories of his great senior championship success in the club in 1963 and he is looking forward to getting back to Cusack Park in 2021 to defend our title. Looking fit and well Mel said he mightn’t line out but is looking forward to be back shouting on the blues.
Ronan presented Mel with a token of the club’s appreciation for all his work around the grounds.
Everyone in the club would like to thank Mel for his countless hours of work for the club over the years and we look forward to see him back at our games very soon.
