Hi everyone!
Looking forward to our last session tomorrow, award’s presentation and the bake sale!!
Thank you to all the parent volunteers who helped us time and time again, with check-in, COVID protocols, blitzes, spot prizes and generally making Newbridge Hockey Club possible.
E-mail will follow in the next weeks regarding club structure and how we need everyone’s help in order to continue into the next season.
Please see a short summary from our coaches on how this year went.
With thanks,
Newbridge Hockey Club Committee 2021-2022
U8
Our U8s are an extremely enthusiastic group! They are keen to learn new skills and techniques and are a pleasure to coach.
U10
3rd and 4th class boys and girls had a great experience playing in the West Leinster blitzes this season. They had a number of blitzes both at home and away which everyone throughly enjoyed participating in. They played teams from Naas HC, Mullingar HC, North Kildare HC, Tullamore HC and Abbeyleix HC.
5th Class
Our 5th Class girls and boys also had the opportunity again this season to partake in the West Leinster Blitzes. They played against teams from Naas HC, Mullingar HC, North Kildare HC, Tullamore HC and Abbeyleix HC. It was great to see our players constantly improving throughout this season and enjoying the blitzes.
6th Class
This season we had two 6th Class X8 teams. It was the first time the girls played any X8 Leinster matches. Both teams worked extremely hard all season. The Div 2 team found themselves in a three-way playoff against Our Lady’s HC and Bray HC after they all finished on the same points in the league, this playoff guaranteed us a spot in the league semifinal against Loretto HC. The Newbridge Girls fought throughout the whole game but it was an unfortunate 5-1 loss.
1st Year
Our first Year girls played their first X8 leagues this season after missing out last season due to covid. The 1st years finished second in the league table which put them through to the league semifinal! The girls travelled to Monkstown HC for a thrilling game of hockey, we were 3 nil down and managed to get 2 back just before the final whistle. It was an unfortunate loss but our girls did amazing.
2nd Year
Our Minor team had a very successful season this year. The girls finished joint first at the top of the league table with Carlow HC, this guaranteed them a position in league semifinal. The girls travelled to Dublin for a competitive semifinal against Dublin North HC and came out with a 3-0 victory! We were lucky to enough to host a home final v Carlow HC, in a very competitive nail biting match the Newbridge secured a goal in the first half which would win them the game and become the Leinster Girls Minor Div 3 Winners 2021-22
U16
We had two Inter teams again this season, both teams were entered in Leinster leagues. The girls from both teams worked extremely hard all season and fought to the end of every match. Our Inter 2 team finished second in the league table which secured them a home semifinal against local rivals Naas HC, unfortunately it was not meant to be for Newbridge and it was a 5-1 loss, the girls fought through the entirety of the game and secured a lovely goal from a short corner in the first quarter.
U18
This season was the first time Leinster held an U18 league. The league ran from September to December. Our 5th and 6th Year students got great enjoyment out of this league and they had a number of very competitive matches. Leinster introduced an U18 Cup in February which saw Newbridge face Pembroke HC in the first round, there was great hockey displayed by both teams but unfortunately it was Pembroke who progressed to the second round after securing a 4-0 victory.
