SFL Division 5
Asca 3-15 Tinryland 1-5
Asca with a strong sprinkling of re-graded first team players proved too strong for the Tinryland 3rd team in this opening division 5 game in Rathcrogue on Wednesday 19th March.
The winners got on the scoresheet straight from the throw in when former Tinryland player John Dwyer slotted over a point and over the next 10 minutes the men in sky blue dominated play with further points from Dylan Bourke and Miley O’Reilly with the latter also finding the net in the 9th minute.
Tinryland who were fielding a 3rd adult team for the first time in 4 years opened their account in the 12th minute with a John Dempsey point but it was the men from the edge of the town that continued to make the running adding another goal from O’Reilly and further points from Conor Byrne (2) and substitute Killian Comiskey who had replaced the injured Shane Noonan as early as the 5th minute.
Gary Scully who was one of Tinryland’s more livelier players found the Asca net in the 23rd minute but this score proved to be a false dawn for the home side as Asca added a further goal from Miley O’Reilly who brought up his hat trick and points from John Dwyer and Dylan Bourke to leave the Half Time scoreboard reading Asca 3-8 Tinryland 1-1.
When referee Pat Moran re-started proceedings Asca continued to dominate and it took a great save from Tinryland goalkeeper Lee Buggle to deny the eventual winners another goal. Further points from Dylan Bourke, John Dwyer and Conor Byrne (2) stretched their advantage before Tinryland staged a mini revival with points from Tomas Murphy, Eoin Townsend, John Paul Moore and Garry Scully which completed the scoring in this one- sided game. Gary Scully did hit the crossbar with a last second penalty but when he gathered the re-bound referee Moran had already sounded the full- time whistle. Tinryland will be back in action in round 2 on Wednesday next 26th March at home to Fighting Cocks at 7.30 p.m.
