Tinryland GFC club notes 16th March 2025

   Tinryland G.F.C. Club notes 16th March 2025

The season at adult level got underway at the weekend when both the senior and junior teams were in action. Despite two losses there were positives to be taken out of both games.

In the senior game away to Rathvilly, Tinryland lost by the minimum after a slow first half. The men in blue and white actually led going into stoppage time but conceded a goal on the stroke of full time. There was some controversy at the end when a lot in attendance thought that the game had ended in a draw but the referee had the score as 2-10 to 1-12 in the home teams favour. It seems that the confusion arose over whether a score was a two or one pointer. The seniors will be back in action in round 2 on this coming Friday 21st March at home to Bagenalstown Gaels.

Tinryland had 3 players namely Mark Mullen, John Murphy and Paddy Regan in action for Carlow in their 12point win over Longford in the Allianz Football league on Saturday last. The 3 Tinryland players will be part of the Carlow squad that will travel to McGovern Park in Ruislip to play London on Sunday next 23rd March at 1 p.m.

In the S.F.L. division 3 Tinryland hosted our neighbours Palatine who looked very strong for this division. Another slow start saw Tinryland conceding the first 6 scores but an improved 2nd half performance gave great hope for this team who will play at junior (B) level in the championship.

The juniors will be back in action on Saturday next 22nd March at home to O’Hanrahans at 5 p.m.

The club 2nd junior team will host Askea in division 5 on this Wednesday evening 19th March at 7.30 p.m.

At underage level Tinryland teams continued their winning streak defeating Kildavin-Clonegal at minor U18 level and Fenagh at U16 level. In the minor game played on Monday last Tinryland had fine performances from Tomas Murphy, Lorcan O’Connor, Shay Ryan, Macdara Deane, Oisin Fagan and Callum O’Brien-Murphy. In the U16 game Tadhg Deane, Jamie Deane, Dan Kehoe, Oisin Byrne and Evan Farrell were the prominent Tinryland players.

The Cental U14 championship game against Railyard which was due to take place on Sunday last will now take place on this coming Thursday 20th March in Rathcrogue at 7.30 p.m.

Underage training for U8 and U10 players continues on this coming Wednesday 19th March at 6.30 p.m. All new players are more than welcome. The little hoops training programme for U6 players will commence on Wednesday 26th March at 6.30 p.m.

Bennekerry/Tinryland ladies celebrated a fantastic year that saw Carlow, Leinster and All Ireland titles won at their well- attended dinner dance on Friday last in the Lord Bagnall Leighlinbridge.

The players players of the year were Ellie Dowling (Intermediate and Aoibhin Webb (Senior)

The managers player of the year awards went to Cliodhna Ni She (Senior) and Jane Bullen (Intermediate)

The club lotto jackpot still stands at €10000 and can be played online via the club force app or by purchasing a ticket from any committee member. Last weeks lucky dip winners were: Diarmaid Walshe, Tom Delaney, Cormac and Geraldine O’Toole and Marian Jeaney.
