                   Tinryland G.F.C. club notes 25th August 2024

Our two adult teams had disappointing starts to their opening championship games last weekend.

On Friday last Tinryland seniors lost out to Old Leighlin in the opening round of the Michael Lyng motors Hyundai Carlow S.F.C. The 2nd game in the championship takes place on Saturday next 31st August when Tinryland play Bagenalstown Gaels in Netwatch Cullen park at 7.30 p.m.

Our junior team also lost at the weekend in the Talbot Hotel Carlow J.F.C. losing out to last years beaten finallists Fighting Cocks. The juniors will be back in action at home to Leighlinbridge on this coming Friday 30th August at 7.30 p.m.

At underage level our U16s were well beaten by Bagenalstown Gaels in McGrath Park on Thursday last. In this week’s games Tinryland U18 team will play Grange on tomorrow Monday 26th August in Killerig at 7 p.m. Tinryland U14s will be away to Michael Davitts in Old Leighlin on Wednesday next 28th August at 7 p.m.

At a well- attended meeting on Tuesday last further progress was made re the proposed trip to New York during Easter week 2025. The next meeting will take place on Tuesday 3rd September when deposits will be required. To date over 60 members and supporters including 30 players have indicated a willingness to travel.

Well done to the Bennekerry/Tinryland senior ladies who won their 2nd game in this year’s championship by defeating St. Annes by 1-12 to 1-08 in Tullow.

Tinryland G.F.C. featured strongly in the photographic exhibition which attracted huge crowds to Tinryland parish hall at the weekend.

Congratulations to club member Eanna Dunican who won the 100m gold medal at the National community games held in Carlow at the weekend. He is the first Carlow athlete to win this title since another former Tinryland player Marcus Lawler triumphed in the same event in 2010.

The club lotto jackpot currently stands at €8500 and can be played online via the club force app or by purchasing a ticket for the Monday evening draw from any committee member.

Last weeks lucky dip winners were Tracey Doyle, Tina Delaney, Cormac and Geraldine O’Toole and Caoimhe, Cian and Enid McCreanor.
