   Tinryland G.F.C. Club Notes 12th May 2024

Our senior team were defeated by Palatine in round 7 of the S.F.L. division 1 and Andy Murphy shield final in an entertaining game at Rathcrogue on Sunday evening. Tinryland looked dead and buried at one stage in this game but staged a wonderful second half rally to draw level entering the final quarter. Palatine showed their experience by weathering the storm to run out winners on a scoreline of 1-18 to 1-13. Outstanding for Tinryland were Shane Redmond, Maurice Lawler, Paddy Regan, Michael Hosey, Conor Ryan and Cian McGuire. After the game the Andy Murphy shield was presented by Mick and John Murphy to Palatine captain Finbarr Kavanagh with the man of the match award going to Josh Egan from the winning team.

At underage level our minor team defeated Fenagh in the spring league on Monday last.

Our Feile team had mixed luck in their 3 games on Thursday and Friday last. In the opening Feile game at Rathcrogue on Thursday last Tinryland came up against a strong Bagenalstown Gaels team who won on a scoreline of 2-10 to 1-3. In the 2nd game on Friday evening in McGrath Park Tinryland had an easy victory over Clonmore on a score of 5-7 to 0-4 while in the 3rd game against Asca also in McGrath Park the Carlow town team triumphed on a score of 1-4 to 1-3 in a game that was in the melting pot right up to the final whistle.

In the coming week Tinryland U14s will be at home to Michael Davitts on this Wednesday evening at Rathcrogue with a 6.30 p.m. throw in. On the following evening Thursday our U16 team will travel to Spellman Park in Kildavin to take on the home side with a 7 p.m. throw in. Our minor U18 team will be next in action away to Clonmore on Monday 20th May at 7 p.m.

Preparations are ongoing for the 96 team South East underage tournament spanning 6 categories that will take place in Tinryland G.F.C. over 3 weekends at the end of June and early July. Former stalwarts in our club will be remembered namely Cora Townsend, Mary Dwyer, Ned Hayden, Pat Doyle, Peenie & Mick Whelan and Tommy O’ Neill.

The club lotto jackpot currently stands at €7100 and can be played online via the clubforce app or by purchasing a ticket for the Monday evening draw from any committee member. Last weeks lucky dip winners were: Audrey Doyle, Paul & Denise Devoy, Richard McGrath and Marie Gorman.
