Tinryland G.F.C. Club Notes 10th March 2024
Despite losing round 3 of the S.F.L div 1 by 4 points to Eire Og on Friday last Tinryland seniors showed improved form from the defeat by Old Leighlin in the previous round. Both teams fielded experimental teams in last Friday’s game with only 14 of the 40 players who played in last years Co. final lining out for both teams. Two penalties conceded either side of half time proved to be Tinryland’s undoing but there were encouraging performances from young players Conall McGuire, Paddy Regan, Cormac O’Brien, Michael Hosey and goalie Ciaran Byrne. Tinryland will now have a break of 4 weeks until their next game in round 4 at home to Palatine which will double as the Andy Murphy tournament final in aid of Carlow Hospice. That game is fixed for Friday 5th April and the league for Tinryland will conclude with games at home to Clonmore (19th April) and away to Bagenalstown Gaels on 3rd May. There will be no more competitive football after the league concludes in May until late August when the championship begins. Surely the powers that be must address this situation where club players from Carlow have no meaningful games for almost 4 months during the best playing months of the year.
Our Junior team will be at home to Askea on Saturday next 16th March at 7 p.m in Division 3.
Underage football begins this week with our U18 team away to Eire Og on this Monday evening 11th March at 7 p.m.
Bennekerry/Tinryland ladies club will hold an adult table quiz in our club on this coming Friday 15th March commencing at 8.30 p.m. Tables of 4 cost €40 and there will be a raffle on the night for wonderful spot prizes sponsored by Nuala Mohan Physio, Jason Farrell sports, Douglas Jewellers, Anno Beauty and Kellys pharmacy.
Our club lotto jackpot currently stands at €6200 and can be played via the club force app or by purchasing a ticket from any committee member. Last weeks lucky dip winners were: Thomas Moore, Colm O’Connor, Eimear O’Toole and Tom and Shane Delaney.
