St Lomans GAA Club Notes 27/11/2023:
Minor Ladies Championship Final:
St Lomans Mullingar 6-08 Coralstown Kinnegad 2-07
A sensational year for the club was capped off in style by our minor girls last Sunday in Multyfarnham. A nine-minute hat-trick from Katie Kilmurray set the tone for an afternoon with each goal resulting in Kilmurray breezing past her marker and finishing emphatically. This turned out to be the decisive period of the game. Therese Murray got Coralstown Kinnegad off the mark with a free, but Paige Matthews and Katie Kilmurray hit back at the other end. Caoimhe Kimurray found the net after twenty minutes to give the blues a large lead. Murray hit back with a goal and point to reduce the deficit, but the saints responded with points from Matthews, Katie Kilmurray and Meabh O’Hara leaving the Mullingar side twelve clear at the break.
The second half turned out turned out to be a more even affair. Katie Kilmurray added to her tally with a point from play. Murray replied with a pair of frees before a second goal from Caoimhe Kilmurray truly ended any hopes of a Kinnegad comeback. Credit to Therese Murray who continued to do damage for her team hitting another quickfire goal and point. Shannon Breslin got off the mark in the fourth quarter and doubled her total a couple of minutes later. Murray responded with another placed ball for her side to reduce the deficit.
Lomans’ victory was rubberstamped when Rachel McKenna intercepted a kick out and measured a perfectly executed lob over the goalkeeper to put the seal on a superb day for the blues. Therese Murray had the last word with a free to emphasise a superb individual day for her, who was responsible for the entirety of her team’s scoring total. Referee Paul McGaughey blew his full-time whistle and Lomans ran out thirteen-point victors to retain their trophy.
There’s no doubt the Mullingar side were deserving victors on the day with their opponents only scoring one goal from play and all other scores coming from placed balls. The game was full of wonderful performances from each player. Eimear Doonan, Lara McCartan, Shauna Traynor, Caoimhe Kilmurray, Paige Matthews, Shannon Breslin and Rachel McKenna all put in excellent performances. However, a nine-minute hat-trick from Katie Kilmurray separates her from the rest as player of the match. It must be said though that it was a complete team performance from the Lomans Ladies.
This has been a stunning year for the club at al levels. After winning all at underage levels in 2022, we managed to retain our honours at under 16 and minor, while having to settle for silver at under 14 this year. The Ladies side of the club is something we are tremendously proud of, and we thank everybody involved for their hard work behind the scenes. A huge thanks to all our players for their hard work throughout the year. A big well done to the management team of Alan Quinn, Enda Matthews and Andrea Martin for their time and effort devoted to the girls this year. The final order of the day was for our captain Abbie Norris to life the trophy aloft and let celebrations ensue.
