The Under 21 team played St. James in the West Cork Championship Quarter Final last Thursday night under lights in Castlehaven. St. James started in whirlwind fashion and had the Caheragh defence under severe pressure while taking a five point lead. The team fought back approaching half time and were grateful to keeper Alan Collins for some great saves which kept St. James lead to three points at Half Time.
A much improved second period saw the team take a three point lead courtesy of two goals from Liam Shiely. With Kevin O’Driscoll dominating midfield Caheragh lead by the minimum as full time approached. St. James scored a late equaliser to give a final score of 2-10 each.
The replay went ahead on Sunday morning and on this occasion they got off to a great start and lead by three points at the break, which included a penalty goal from Colm O’Driscoll. The second half was keenly fought with St. James having a penalty saved by Alan Collins.
The defence was very solid in the final quarter to ensure a victory on a final score of 1-9 to 1-5. They now play St. Colums in the Semi-Final on Saturday next 11th April in Bantry at 3.30pm.
The Under 14 footballers played their first league game against Garnish on last Thursday night in Aughaville and had an easy victory having dominated the game throughout, playing some nice football. They play Gabriel Rangers this week in their second league game.
The Under 12 footballers travelled to Adrigole on Tuesday night and recorded a good victory in their second league game. They play Glengarriff next Monday evening in Aughaville.
The Junior A Championship against St. James has been fixed for Saturday 25th April, venue to be confirmed.
